Here are some satisfying statistics on library usage this quarter. The library had record breaking circulation in October. We checked out 3637 items and in-housed 2084. I compared this to the previous high month for calendar year 2006 which was August for both these statistics. Circulation was up 15% and in-house usage was up a whopping 24% for the year. Circulation comparing FY06 to FY07 YTD is up 14%.In-house usage FY06 to FY07 YTD is up 24%.We have provided or have scheduled 39 bibliographic instruction sessions this quarter which is also record breaking for us, the average per quarter last year was 25. That’s a 56% increase. NOTE-All of the above are AI statistics only.Gate count which includes Argosy: Average weekly gate count for SU 2005 was 2895; in SU 2006 we averaged 3110 weekly which is a 7% increase. In this quarter, FA 2006, we are averaging 3259 per week so far. These numbers will decrease somewhat when we quit making IDs in the library.Terms defined:Circulation–a student, staff or faculty checked something out.In-House–the item was used in the library, includes textbook and reserve usage.Bibliographic Instruction–classes that come to the library for instruction on doing research and using library resources. Rarely the librarian goes to the classroom if the class is in a computer lab.Gate Count–we have a counter on the security gate. We checked it every Monday and subtract the previous week’s number to get the total ins and outs which is then divided by 2 to reach the count. Of course, this includes people stepping out to get a drink of water and staff traffic. (Source: AIDallas Library)
