Asymptomatic uterine artery pseudoaneurysm after cesarean section

March 6, 2010 – 11:00 pm We report an asymptomatic postpartum woman with uterine artery pseudoaneurysm after CS. We also provide a review of published reports of pseudoaneurysm after CS. A 31-year-old Japanese woman underwent CS, in which the uterine incision was extended laterally. Routine postoperative evaluation with vaginal ultrasound on postpartum day 6 revealed a parauterine mass with a maximum diameter of 49 mm with swirling flow. Selective angiography confirmed this mass as a uterine artery pseudoaneurysm. Uterine artery embolization was performed with success. Uterine artery pseudoaneurysm should be listed as a differential diagnosis of pelvic mass after CS. (Source: Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research)

Measurement and characteristics of post-cesarean section pain and the relationship to limitation of physical activities

March 5, 2010 – 1:50 pm Conclusion: Post cesarean section pain was rated as moderate. The pain led to limitations of physical activities for sitting down, standing up, and walking.

A rare case of postpartum hemorrhage caused by the rupture of a uterine artery pseudoaneurysm three months after cesarean delivery.

March 3, 2010 – 11:00 pm Authors: Hayata E, Matsuda H, Furuya K Postpartum hemorrhage usually occurs immediately or several hours or days after delivery and almost always within 6 weeks. Rupture of a uterine artery pseudoaneurysm subsequent to a cesarean section is a rare cause of postpartum hemorrhage, and delayed postpartum hemorrhage from a pseudoaneurysm may be misdiagnosed as hypermenorrhea. Here we present an extremely rare case of massive postpartum hemorrhage three months after a cesarean section that was successfully treated using selective uterine artery embolization (UAE).A 24-year-old woman, gravida 1, para 1, delivered a healthy baby via emergency cesarean section at a local clinic, and three months later was transported by ambulance to our hospital because of persistent vaginal hemorrhage with a ...

Impact of Labor on Outcomes in Transient Tachypnea of the Newborn: Population-Based Study

March 1, 2010 – 3:02 pm CONCLUSIONS: Our study indicates that TTN is strongly related to elective cesarean section and low GA. Furthermore, the absence of exposure to labor contractions is associated with increased risk and severe course of TTN at term, with longer duration of oxygen supplementation. (Source: PEDIATRICS)

Neonatal outcome following elective cesarean section beyond 37 weeks of gestation: a 7-year retrospective analysis of a national registry

February 28, 2010 – 11:00 pm Objective: We sought to evaluate number and timing of elective cesarean sections at term and to assess perinatal outcome associated with this timing.Study Design: We conducted a recent retrospective cohort study including all elective cesarean sections of singleton pregnancies at term (n = 20,973) with neonatal follow-up. Primary outcome was defined as a composite of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Results: More than half of the neonates were born at (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Let’s Talk About The Incision Used For Tubal Reversal Surgery

February 27, 2010 – 11:00 pm Women on the message board at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center want to know how long the incision is that is used to untie the fallopian tubes. First, the length of the incision varies for each individual but is usually between two and three inches. You can see pictures of an actual incision in relation to the size of a quarter on the website. Generally if you have had a c-section the same incision line will be used if possible. The good news is that regardless of the length of the incision it will be almost invisible in six months time due to the expert skills of Dr. Gary Berger and Dr. Charles Monteith, the best tubal reversal doctors. Gestational diabetes: Blood sugar levels once considered normal are not safe for baby, mother

February 27, 2010 – 9:00 am Two to three times more pregnant women may soon be diagnosed and treated for gestational diabetes, based on new measurements for determining risky blood sugar levels for the mother and her unborn baby, according to a new study. Blood sugar levels that were once considered in the normal range are now seen as causing a sharp increase in the occurrence of overweight babies, early deliveries, cesarean section deliveries and potentially life-threatening preeclampsia. Prenatal diagnosis of an intertwin membrane hematoma

February 25, 2010 – 11:00 pm We report a case of a 26-year-old woman, gravida 2, para 1, with a dichorionic diamniotic twin pregnancy at 33 weeks of gestation with a 1-day history of mild vaginal bleeding and irregular uterine activity. Ultrasonography showed 18 × 15 × 3-cm-sized complex hypoechoic mass located in the dividing intertwin membrane. Based on this finding, the diagnosis of an intertwin membrane hematoma was made. This unusual sonographic diagnosis was confirmed during the cesarean section. In the case of dichorionic twin pregnancy, partial placental abruption can lead to a subclinical intertwin membrane hematoma. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
